Basil often referred to as “Sweet Basil” is extracted using steam distillation of the leaves of the plant. The warm, spicy and herbal aroma of this oil makes it versatile which can be used to create a calm, relaxed environment. It is also known to reduce anxious feelings and provides great benefit to both mind and body. The aroma of Basil oil helps promote a sense of focus and a stress-relieving experience.
Skin: It enhances luster of dull looking skin and hence is extensively used in products aimed at improving skin tone. It is also commonly used to treat acne and other skin infections. Mix 2 drops of this oil with 2 ml jojoba oil and apply on infected acne areas once or twice daily.
Hair: Basil oil removes excess grease from scalp and adds shine to hair. You can add few drops of this oil to your shampoo. It is also helpful in treating dandruff which causes hair fall. Massaging basil oil with coconut oil helps to alleviate itching, increases blood flow and makes the hair root healthy. It also promotes hair growth. Massaging scalp with this oil improves circulation which stimulates hair follicles and promotes production of new healthy hair.
Relieves stress: The calming nature of basil essential oil is widely used in aromatherapy. The oil has refreshing effect when inhaled and thus is used for providing relief from nervous tension, ental fatigue, migraines and depression. Regular use of this oil also enhances mental strength and clarity.
Alleviates pain: The analgesic properties of this oil provides relief from pain and thus this oil is often used in cases of arthritis, wounds, injuries, burns, scars and headaches.
Clears Congestion and Soothes Cough: Basil is useful for respiratory issues, colds and flu. It is a natural anti-viral and can be used as a natural remedy for cold and flu. You can diffuse few drops in your home or add 1-2 drops to steam bath. Homemade vapor rub can be made by mixing 2 drops of basil oil and 2 drops of eucalyptus with jojoba oil and massage on chest on open up nasal passages.
Eliminates odors and germs: It can also be used to remove bacteria from surfaces and freshens air.
Caution: Avoid during pregnancy and with sensitive skin. It can cause possible sensitization in some individuals, so use in very low concentration only. It is important to note that all Essential Oils are extremely concentrated in nature and if to be applied on the skin or body, should always be diluted upto a maximum dosage of 4% in a suitable carrier oil.
